Great first sentences in SCIENCE

Richard O. Prum, in a Perspectives article, SCIENCE vol 322, page 1799, December 19, 2008:

"The recognition that birds are theropod dinosaurs has redefined the science of ornithology as extant dinosaur biology." 

I just love first sentences like this.   NATURE usually has some doozies, ranging from the utterly incomprehensible to those that seem intended to provoke a laugh or at least a smirk.
