I once made salsa out of chile pequins. Little tiny red VERY hot peppers--we had bushes of them in San Antonio that had come with the house; we also raised various peppers. In a burst of housewifely enthusiasm, I thought "I can make my own hot sauce" and I put about a cup and a half of them in the blender, whirled them around to mush, took off the top and leaned over the now-open top to see how they were looking.

And that was a mistake. My lungs seized up, eyes felt blistered. OMG.

On the other hand, rubbing a sore elbow (for instance) with the cut flesh of a hot pepper can be beneficial (knew this before they started making ointments using the hot pepper chemicals.)
