At least plugging in the toaster will make it work there, apparently.

The last time I visited my mom, if you had more than one item trying to run on either of the circuits on either side of the kitchen sink, the circuit breaker would trip. So, if you plugged in the electric kettle for tea on the toaster side because the coffeemaker was on on the other side, if someone was actually trying to make toast, both tea and toast would fail. (The dishwasher is also on the toaster side, so toasting while the dishwasher was running would be a recipe for fail, as well.)
