Knitting Interlude [Sep. 16th, 2011|11:22 am]

Project #2 is completely finished now.   The intended recipient, offered a choice, asked for fringe on the scarf, so this week I played with different fringe designs and then settled on this:

The fringe is of the same yarn, gauged by wrapping around an old paperback of Rosemary Sutcliffe's Warrior Scarlet,  then cut along one edge.  Two of the strands were pulled through every other stitch.   The scarf is 30 stitches (6 inches) wide, almost six feet long w/o fringe (a little over six with fringe), worked with size 8 needles in Berocca's "Comfort" yarn.  The color is "Sanibel Island."

Oh, lovely! That's really beautiful yarn. I'm sure you've said before, but I don't remember...what brand/style/colour is it? My own completed crochet projects pile is growing, but since it's mostly gifts, I can't post pix until after Christmas. :-D I did finish a cardigan for myself last weekend, but it's still drying from being blocked Monday night. I'd really hoped to wear it to a friend's birthday dinner tonight, too! Ah well. That's what one gets when one lives in a damp climate. I daresay the thing would've dried in half a day in your weather.

Should have said: Berocco "Comfort" yarn in "Sanibel Island." My project #1 is the same brand, in the color "Finnian's Rainbow." And Project #4 (#3 having been abandoned and the yarn given away) is in the same as #2. I decided I wanted a scarf like that for myself!

You can see the colors here: http://tinyurl.com/3v47re5 The color that didn't work out for me was the muted green "Maine Woods" but the people I gave it to loved it. I might have loved it if not stressed out with husband's medical problems. I'm thinking of getting some "Adirondack" to see if I like that green better.

Actually--looked again--I DID give the yarn name and color, down at the bottom below the picture.

Thanks for all the admiring comments. Now to go forth and do more...this one's wrapped and ready for shipping, probably Monday when the post office is open again.

Having re-learned knit and purl (though there's no purling on this scarf, obviously--it's all garter stitch--but a lot on the blanket project) I'm now ready to tackle some other nuances.

Me, too. In real life, the patterns made are not quite as obtrusive as in the photo (which used flash.) So the ripple look is there, but a little quieter.

Rosemary Sutcliffe was one of my favorites when I was in school. This year a film of " Eagle of the Ninth"was released. Haven't seen it yet, but a friend tells me that it is good.

We saw the film and liked it a lot. It did not include everything in the book, but we felt it was true to the spirit of the book. Grim realities were not glossed over.

And Project #2 was mailed to its recipient today. She sounded quite happy to know it was on the way.
