This Time It's Romney [Oct. 11th, 2011|11:55 pm]

[Current Mood |annoyed]

So Mitt Romney says he could work with "good" Democrats.  How very nice of him.

As far as I know, I've been a good Democrat for quite some time now, so let's see if he could "work with" me as a representative good Democrat.  Is he going to support reproductive choice, gay marriage,  Social Security, Medicare + a solid medical care program for everyone,  investment in infrastructure, investment in job creation, appropriate regulation of the financial industry, enforcing environmental regulations on industry thus protecting the national resources of air, water, and soil, taxing the individuals and corporations not now paying income tax at their assigned rate through loopholes (if corporations want to have the rights of individuals--which the Supreme Court gave them--they can damn well pay taxes like individuals), investment in education (especially to free quality public education for all with science and not religion in charge), commitment to long-term sustainable environmental habits...etc...???

Oh.  Surprise.  He's not, actually, as centrist as he claims.   By "good" Democrats he means the most conservative Democrats he can drag up and those passive, beaten-down Democrats who don't dare raise their voices..

Well, I could work with "good" Republicans (and there used to be good Republicans.  I even voted for some of them back down the line.)  But you see, Romney does not meet my definition of a good Republican any more than I meet his definition of a good Democrat.

Ritual disclaimer.  Yes, Virginia, there are worse Republicans than Romney.  Perry, for instance.   That does not make Romney "good."

Ye gods! I had NOT heard about that. Thanks for linking here.

Granting "personhood" to fertilized eggs (don't they have ANY idea how many of those never make it to embryo, let alone to fetus, let alone to birth?) is downright stupid along with viciously immoral in my books, just another attack on women.

It's not like Mississippi takes great care of children after they're born, or poor mothers, either.

And drat, that they chose PayPal for their donations handler. I work with PayPal about as well as Romney would work with me. Have written asking for mailing address.

Link away. I'm not sure the DNC will pay any attention, and my so-called representatives are Republicans I didn't vote for--useless, in other words, when it comes to women's issues. But we have to try.

Roger that. I am amazed that no one seems to have a problem with the Repubs spelling "compromise" c-a-p-i-t-u-l-a-t-e.

Every time people start talking about "Romney", I have to remind myself that they don't mean George. Been at this game too long . . .

Sadly, none of the people up for this election has the leadership skills to get a band of Boy Scouts out of a mud puddle. No matter who gets elected from the lot we have to choose from, it's gonna be a rotten quad of years. What is needed is someone with enough backbone to admit the system is broken and a few things need fixed, whether everyone likes it or not. Someone who will say hey, I'm only gonna have one term, but I'll make it count and be remembered as a leader who led instead of enjoying the cushy perks while the country collapsed. But such devotion to country over person or party is nonexistant these days. So we'll either stick with deer-in-headlights Obama, or we'll get "Flat Earth" Perry or worse.

And somehow, I have to keep telling my teen daughters that things will get better. But it's hard to tell my oldest to get A's when she says the guy running for president got C's and worse, Bill Gates and Zuckerburg were drop outs, and the future looks sucky from where she stands no matter what her grades.
