I think I may be. I had finally quit flying (which I enjoy in other ways) because I got sick every single time I went to a convention by air, but not by driving or train. (Except for one train trip to NYC, during which two different strangers sneezed in my face, one in a subway and one at a cafe.)
However, with something as big and crowded as DragonCon, I have to consider the possibility of a virus acquired there.
You should look into preventive measures to help you avoid catching viruses and other bugs when in crowded situations. That's probably what your trouble with planes stems from.
The Austin metro senior citizen's card did wonders. You'll hear the rest at Thanksgiving, all deities being willing and the crick don't rise. (Though I wish it would flow again, to be sure.)
