Your Morning Laugh: Factoid v. Fact [Jun. 22nd, 2016|09:12 am]
[Current Mood |surprised]

According to someone with inadequate internet research skills, who published a post on Ten Things You Didn't Know About Gordon Lightfoot, I was his second wife.   He married his second wife (I looked it up in several places) in 1989 (when I'd been married to my actual husband for 20 years) separated from her in 2003, and divorced in 2011.

It would have been an interesting exercise in bigamy if I had managed to marry someone I'd never met in 1989.   I think my husband and son and mother would have noticed if I'd run off to marry a musician/songwriter.   My mother was beginning her final decline, our son was in the most difficult (for me) period of his childhood as an autist,  and I was writing as fast as I could in the midst of everything else.  I didn't have time or energy for a clandestine romance.

But since everything on the internet lives forever, I'm sure that this will make its way into multiple other sites before it can be corrected other than by my stating plainly in every venue every time that I was never married to Gordon Lightfoot, was married only once, in 1969, and someone just mistook me for someone else. I filled out the "responses" form on the Fraze Pavilion site, but have no idea if they even look at their mail, let alone correct their errors.  It's funny (R- and I laughed over it this morning) but it's also another proof that not everything on the internet is true.

At least it wasn't an article about some guy like Charles Manson or something. There's that.

Very true. SO glad Donald Trump never married a woman with my name. I'd have had to legally change it.

You married Gordon Lightfoot?????

Just checked Wikipedia and it looks like they copied this from there. Maybe do a Google search and see how many Elizabeth Moons there are out there.

Re: You married Gordon Lightfoot?????

Lots. I have an insane number of entries, so you have to go down some pages, but I know there's a bunch.

I have not seen the article in question, but am pleased to know it isn't true.

I have twice tried to comment on posts on your other blogs, but they do not seem to be appearing - is there a problem with your website, or is it just that you have enabled comment moderation? It usually says when that has happened....

Moderation is always enabled on the first few posts from anyone on the WordPress blogs attached to the websites (Paksworld, Universes, etc.) That's stated in the Policies page. Sometimes I disable comments for various reason (just don't want to deal with comments right then--usually because of a deadline--and have occasionally forgotten to announce that they're disabled.

I do use Akismet as a spam filter on the website blogs, and if it kicks something into spam (now that it's pretty well trained) I just empty the spam bucket without looking.

I just looked at all four blogs, and did not find comments from you in moderation, or in the first page of the spam lists for the blogs. However, since I last emptied all the spam (Wednesday sometime) some of them have had a lot of new spam entries (I see tonight.) And I'm too tired to look at all the entries in case yours is far down the list in spam. You can help me out by emailing (via the website contact page) the date you submitted the comments, and the post on which you were commenting. I thought I remembered that you had posted on one of the others, and I'd approved it. Also, consider posting to one of them and emailing me at the same time. Then we can get a better idea of what's happening.

The things you learn about your favourite author.

Just kidding. :] I believe Gordon's second wife actually shared your name, but you might be pleased to know that, although they didn't distinguish the two of you by any useful description, her name in his wikipedia entry does not, in fact, link to yours. Wiki can be altered by just about anyone (with approval, though be warned it logs and publicly displays your IP if you haven't used an approved account) -- hoping someone makes the distinction more obvious on his page for you.

Re: And two children.

Which I could not have borne, since I had a hysterectomy in the late 1970s, so by 1989 was unable to conceive.

Such a stupid article.
