Contract! [Jan. 24th, 2008|08:26 pm]

[Current Mood |cheerful]

The word is that my agent and the editor have hammered out the details and my new contract is a Go!   I don't know all the details yet, but I do know it's a three-book contract, the first due next December, for fantasy (yes, back to fantasy again.)

It will be the story of Kieri Phelan after the end of The Deed of Paksenarrion, so those of you interested, who haven't read the Paks story yet, should hie yourselves to a bookstore or Amazon.com and pick it up.   The Paks story and the related The Legacy of Gird, which combines Surrender None and Liar's Oath, were both published by Baen Books, which did an excellent job with them.   I'm now with Del Rey, though, so the new books will be coming out from them.

Merci! (That being almost the whole of my French, let me say in English that there be much rejoicing...)

Wow. I seriously thought you'd never have a chance to go back there again!

Yet more books for my "to buy" list ...

I was hoping...and it happened. The character had to speak up and say "Now I'm ready...!" and the publisher had to say "...and we're ready, too."

Absolutely terrific news!

Just what I was hoping to find on checking my friends' list for the first time after getting back home from a week in the hospital to have my ileostomy successfully reversed -- well, this news and maybe a few more snippets :-)

Um...next December is when I turn it in...when they actually publish it is up to them...

Baen was able to get books into print faster, and as I said did a very good job with my first five fantasies, but Del Rey is willing to publish my "odd" books, like _The Speed of Dark_ (and they re-issued _Remnant Population_ when we reverted the rights), books that just don't fall into its main market expectations. And Del Rey has done an excellent job with the Vatta's War books. (I'm a very lucky writer, in that I've had good treatment from more than one publisher...)

That's very exciting. It's usually the first storyline I mention when someone asks about your body of work (unless they're already familiar with some of your collaborations).

I'm so happy to hear that. I love Deed - it's my comfort book when I feel down, and I happily promote it to all fantasy readers I bump into. Any chance Paks will make a guest appearance?

Paks is there part of the time, but not (so far at least) as a viewpoint character. I'm seeing her from outside, through Kieri's eyes, and after the years I spent "inside" her, that's really weird. He views the world differently (well, he's not a paladin, and he's older--he has a different perspective...)

But it's early days yet in what promises to be a longish story arc...this is the part of a project in which I'm sort of noodling around, finding which strand is the right one.

Yay cool congratulations!!

I must tell our frequent customers. There's a police captain who buys everything you write & loves Paks best, & there's apparently some other guy who reads the Paks trilogy over once every year.

:)
